THE PEOPLE’S MURAL

Leimert Park

Over a period of time, I collected all of the images that I photographed during my time in Leimert Park. I spent enough time to gain the trust of the neighborhood, so I wanted to give them something they could take pride in. This mural is comprised of hundreds of images of all of the locals that are always in Leimert Park. It brought me much satisfaction to hear the strories about the locals walking up to the mural and saying, “Hey! That’s me!”. Hence, THE PEOPLE’S MURAL. Inspired by the quote, “It’s Takes a Village” is why I chose this method. I wanted to select an individual that is known and respected in the community. So when you step away from the mural, it forms a single image of this individual. Unfortunately, the mural was temporary. Hopefully, I will be able to make another one!

Here are a few images that are embedded in the mosaic collage.

My goal is to recreate the mural, but involving the youth and community in the process. This mural will be designed to be presented in a major art gallery. Wish me luck!
